Ok I'm confused about this Japanese Kanji?

I'm trying to get a tattoo of the elements on my back. Not the Godai, I want fire, earth, air, and water. I've found out what the symbols for fire air and water are, those are all consistent no matter where I look for them. But I keep finding 2 different Kanji symbols for earth. One is called tsuchi 土 and one is chi or chiku 地 But everywhere I look to figure out which one I should use I get a different answer. Some say one is right some say the other is right. I refuse to get a tattoo before I'm completely sure of the meaning, I don't wanna end up the poor idiot who didn't do his research and gets a screwed up tattoo. So can you please tell me which one is right to use in this instance? Thank you.
