What to do when going to traffic court for accident?

I was in an accident where my car was hit from the driver's side (front engine and driver door) area. I was driving and had 4 other pengers. I was making a right onto the two lane road (the car that hit seemed far away and seemed to speed up as if trying to go around us but ended up hitting us.) He was going 60 in a 55; this is what the police wrote down. Not sure who will be liable for the accident,but if it is blamed on me what should I do when I have to go to court for a traffic violation (it says POW General)? Should I have hire a lawyer? BTW everything about the accident was told to me I have no memory of the event and hours prior to it. Everyone in my car was taking to the hospital. The driver of the other car went home.
