I have a crossword puzzle question?

for whatever reason i have a crossword that says "number one" and the answer is smoke .........I am positive that it is correct but i don't get why????????? How can number one be smoke??? I just don't get it ..........All of the questions that equal the s the m the o and the k and the e are correct i know it.....
